Bookmyshow, which is a Mumbai based online ticket booking website, has changed the way India books movies tickets. Gone are the days when people used to stand in long queues to get tickets for their favourite shows. Now everything can be done from the comfort of our homes with a single click of the mouse. Bookmyshow currently owns over 90% of the share in the online entertainment ticketing market. The portal allows the users to book tickets via app, website and their call centre. Currently, they have offices in India, Malaysia and New Zealand. An estimated 85% of all cinema tickets are sold via Bookmyshow. Bookmyshow made its very first acquisition in 2016, buying the Bangalore headquartered social media Analytics Company “Eventifier” in a $2 million deal. The old investors in the company, Kae Capital, the startup centre and Accel Partners exited the company as a part of the deal. Eventifier offers software solutions that help in consolidating, tracking and analysing feed content across social media platforms that are generated during a social media campaign.

In March 2016, Bookmyshow acquired Chennai based analytics and fan relationship management start-up “Fantain Sports Pvt. Ltd” to expand its user base. Fantain specifically caters to sports businesses in India and provides fan engagement, insights and monetization on its FMR platform. Bookmyshow utilized the intelligence provided by Fantain for gaining insight about fans of sports. The sports category was always a strong point of focus for the e-ticketing portal.

In 2017, Bookmyshow made a series of acquisitions. The company acquired four start-ups, Mastitickets, Townscript, Burpp! And nFusion.

The company made its first acquisition of the year, Mastitickets, which is a ticketing platform based in Hyderabad. This acquisition was strategically made to target regional markets in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The e-ticketing app has 530 screens in these markets. This acquisition helped Bookmyshow expand its user base in these markets and also gave access to around 120 cinemas.

Also, the company acquired, Burrp! which was a Mumbai based restaurant recommendation engine that has been struggling for several months. This deal was all cash and was made with Network 18, the owners of Burrp! This deal was reportedly done for a meagre ₹6.7 lakh. All of its existing partnerships and employees were absorbed by the e-ticketing platform. This acquisition helped Bookmyshow add significant value to its food and beverage offerings.

Further, the company also picked up 75% of stake in Pune based ticketing platform Townscript. This start-up provides planning and ticketing services to workshops, college festivals, conferences, adventure events etc. in a statement, Bookmyshow said that they had discovered the perfect synergy with Townscript and were excited to partner with them.

Bookmyshow’s final and fourth acquisition was Nfusion, which is a Sharjah based HD video-on-demand platform. The platform allows its users to stream videos online. Bookmyshow integrated with Nfusion to launch “Jukebox” which will help users in downloading music.
