Online food ordering and delivery Unicorn Zomato is looking forward to give a carbon-free environment to upcoming generations by introducing mechanical and electrical bicycles into its food delivery workforce. As according to its announcement on Monday it will convert a minimum 40% of its delivery fleet to bicycles by the upcoming two years. Food delivery giant has taken this major step not only in reducing environmental damage but also will assist in enhancing employment opportunities to those who own a bicycle. It would also help in handling traffic and parking issues, especially in narrow areas where cycle would be best to ride.

As per business studies of Zomato, it has 1.5 lakh delivery partners in its registry and each day 150 delivery partners are getting engaged to it thus leading to travel of 4.4 million kilometers a day. So concentrating the environmental damages it causes the food delivery giant is taking the small but major step of shifting to bicycle delivery in the next two years. As per the company statement, “It aims to create a future that builds more tangible value and leave fewer carbon footprints.”  The company has tied up with e-Hiran, Yulu, Mobycy, TNT and ZoomCar’s PEDL for e-bicycles. The company also said till now 5,000 cyclists are in action for food delivery who are majorly working in Delhi. These executives are assigned delivery within a range of 2.5 kilometers.

Conveying to initiative Mohit Gupta, CEO, Food delivery Business, Zomato said, “Environment challenges and reformations in climate are the inalienable reality of the future. With the ambitious geographical expansion of food delivery, our last mile fleet is enhancing by 150 delivery partners which expect us to work for taking certain initiatives to bring a pollution-free future. We have been taking baby steps since before towards environmental responsibility by promoting biodegradable packing and targeting food wastage, malnutrition and hunger with initiative Feeding India. With these developments, we are working to create a future with fewer carbon footprints. We are working with our vendor partners to increase the use of e-cycle adoption and convert 40% of the fleet to power-assisted bikes within the next two years. Our delivery partners have shown a positive response in our initiative.” He also added food delivery partners will be given ergonomic delivery bags; moreover, they are actively trained for the job and educated at road safety norms in Zomato Rider University.
