US-based E-commerce giant Amazon has launched flight search and booking services in India. Amazon has made this service live on its website and currently, it is offering only domestic flight bookings. This facility by Amazon is powered by India online travel agency Cleartrip. Amazon flight search and booking facility is currently offering users to book flights from various airlines including Indigo, GoAir, Vistara UK and SpiceJet. It is also offering a cashback facility to attract more customers on its platform.

As per the Amazon website, the current cashback offers will remain available until May 31. It is offering cashback in a range from Rs 800 to Rs 2,000 to Prime subscribers and Rs 400-1,600 cashback to non-Prime Amazon users. It also added that all users who book the flight using Amazon’s platform will be generated a Cleartrip ID. This is done because if any user in a case needs to contact the Cleartrip customer service team then he/she will need to give this ID as a reference.

It is Amazon’s second step towards the travel business. Early in 2014, it had entered into a hotel business and has to get out of it a year after a disappointing experience. This time it has been cautious and launched domestic flights booking services in partnership with Cleartrip. The partnership will also assist Cleartrip in giving competition to its rivals including MakeMyTrip, Paytm, Google, and booking.com. This service will also put Amazon in direct competition with arch-rival Flipkart in the OTA segment.
