Zomato Sets Eye On ‘Going-Out’ Business, Launches New ‘District’ App to Dominate Space

Zomato, a prominent foodtech company, has launched the ‘District‘ app for its ‘going-out’ service on both Apple’s iOS and Android platforms, more than three months after announcing it.

Customers can use the ‘District‘ app to find and reserve tables at restaurants, as well as book tickets to movies, sports, live performances, and other events.

Why Did Zomato Launch District App?

According to Deepinder Goyal, CEO of Blinkit, the company has developed this new functionality to capitalize on its thriving dine-out business, which has a run rate of more than $500 million in annualised gross order value.

The company plans to make the going out segment its third largest B2C business.

This comes at a time when the foodtech company has been launching new features at a rapid pace in order to keep ahead of the competition.

Zomato’s Latest Launches

Zomato’s ‘Book Now, Sell Anytime’ function went live on its app earlier this week, allowing users to purchase event tickets ahead of time and resell them on the app in case of last-minute changes.

In addition, a few days ago, it debuted a new service called ‘Food Rescue’, which allows users to buy cancelled food orders from local locations, decreasing food waste.

Zomato Profits, Revenue

Zomato’s net profit increased 389% to INR 176 Cr in the September quarter (Q2) of the fiscal year 2024-25 (FY25), up from INR 36 Cr the previous year, owing to robust growth in its rapid commerce subsidiary Blinkit.

In addition, the company’s operational revenue increased by 68.5% to INR 4,799 crore in the reporting quarter, up from INR 2,848 crore in Q2 FY24.
