Serial Box is a new name in a series of startups. It is based on bringing back the serialized fiction. Recently in its seed funding round, it has raised $4.5 million. The funding round is led by Boat Rocker Media, the participating companies in fund round were Uzabase, a Japanese business intelligence and media firm, Forerunner Ventures and Todd Wagner, co-founder of 2929 Entertainment. 

Short story startup works in publishing stories in audio and text format. These stories are divided into weekly episodes. The company provides the first episode of each story free of cost and if you are interested then you can pay $1.99 for additional episodes or sign up with a season pass.

Concerning the funding round Molly Borton, CEO, and cofounder Short story said, we put great attention in choosing trust partners for this round of funding. He also added, “They see the big occasion that we do to retool reading for the Smartphone age, to take most appropriate elements of traditional book publishing and innovate with influences from the podcast, gaming, TV industries, and audio.”

The company is learning from the TV production model, with a showrunner leading each writing time creating the stories.  Serial Box has a collection of talented writers including famous YA/science fiction/fantasy authors Yoon Ha Lee, Gwenda Bond, Becky Chambers, and Max Gladstone. The company is also planning to publish stories based on Marvel characters initiating with Thor.

The company is planning to launch an android app next week with more content updates on the upcoming months. It will soon become a new means of entertainment for kids and adults.
