IT giant Microsoft takes an innovative move to expand its Azure IP Advantage Program by donating 500 patents to start-ups that are part of a non-profit organization called License on Transfer (LOT) Network.

Azure IP Advantage Program was launched by Microsoft in 2018. This program saves users of Microsoft’s cloud computing service – Azure – against patent trolls. LOT Network assists companies in getting protected against patent trolls by allowing them access to several varieties of patents from its portfolio of more than 400 companies including Netflix, Facebook, Amazon, Google, Uber, and several others.

If any startups need to get a patent it must qualify for getting so. For receiving patent to LOT Network, the company is needed to meet a $1,000 per month Azure spend and Microsoft review’s the start-up’s last three monthly Azure bills.

According to TechCrunch report, Erich Andersen, Corporate Vice President (CVP) and Deputy General Counsel at Microsoft, We are in the wish to assist LOT network in growing its a network of startups and to offer an incentive we are providing free patents to them. He also added qualified start-ups who join the LOT Network can acquire Microsoft patents as part of their free membership. The startups who are members of this offer will get up to three patents from this network. Andersen also added the idea to set this move is to provide a platform where these start-ups can come from a diverse set of industry sectors. The wish we have is that when they approach LOT, they’ll find patents among those 500 that are going to be interesting to basically almost any company that might want a foundational set of patents for their business.
