Gaurav Jain, who served as chief business officer for ShareChat and its short-video app Moj, has resigned.

ShareChat, established in 2015 by Ankush Sachdeva, Bhanu Pratap Singh, and Farid Ahsan, is a social networking platform that offers a space for sharing content in multiple languages across India.  The company that owns it, Mohalla Tech, also possesses Moj, a competitor to TikTok.

Employees were informed about Jain’s departure by ShareChat CEO Ankush Sachdeva.  Subsequently, Jain made the announcement of the update in a separate LinkedIn post.

“Today, we shared internally that I’ll be moving on from ShareChat and Moj in the coming weeks. This transition has been in the works for sometime, and I’ll still be around for a bit longer before taking up a new challenge,” Jain wrote in his Linkedin post.

Transition Timeline and Future Plans

Jain hinted at his next possible role on the Asian continent, stating, “As for what’s next—I’m going from Bharat to Pan-Asian.  There will be more on that shortly.

As per sources, Jain will remain with the startup for a “couple of weeks” to facilitate a smooth transition, as reported by media.

Career Journey at ShareChat and Moj

In October 2022, Jain became part of ShareChat and Moj.  He first led the ‘emerging business’ sector before being promoted to CBO in November 2023. In this role, he guided strategies for monetisation, ad sales, creator partnerships, and virtual gifting.

Prior to his time at ShareChat, he was responsible for the expansion of Snap’s business in the APAC region and managed the monetisation of Snapchat in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Southeast Asia.  Before that, he also held important leadership positions at Meta India (mid-market business) and Google APAC agency business.

Search Begins for Jain’s Successor

At present, ShareChat is searching for someone to take Jain’s place.

It is worth mentioning that Singh and Ahsan left the startup in 2023, but they continue to serve on its board.
