IIT Kanpur’s SIIC Supported 500+ Startups, 150 of Them Led by Women, Valued at ₹12,000 Crore

SIIC's Impact: Valuation, Job Creation, and Women's Entrepreneurship

One of the first IIT-led incubators in the nation to achieve this feat is the Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC) at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, which has incubated more than 500 businesses. 

An official statement claims that SIIC was founded in 2000 in partnership with SIDBI and has since grown into a hub for technology-driven innovation and entrepreneurship.

Through fundraising, SIIC-incubated startups have reported a combined valuation of almost Rs 12,000 crore.  According to the institute, more than 150 women-led businesses have benefited from the incubator’s assistance, and the top 253 firms fostered by SIIC have produced over 10,800 skilled and unskilled jobs in 22 Indian states.

Diverse Sector Support and Alignment with National Goals

Additionally, they claim that the SIIC has provided funding for projects in the fields of social technology, fintech, clean technology, medtech, agritech, defense, aerospace, and artificial intelligence. 

Notable success stories include Primary Healthtech, which is growing its IoT-enabled Mobilab gadget for point-of-care diagnostics, and Offgrid Energy Labs, which obtained $15 million in Series A funding to develop its zinc-bromine-based battery system.

Success Stories and Global Collaboration

Royal Bengal Greentech Pvt. Ltd. obtained funding on Shark Tank India, while other firms, including Lifeandlimb.ai and AgrowSure, represented India at the Commonwealth Startup Fellowship in the UK.  In order to provide worldwide access and regulatory support for its incubated enterprises, SIIC also teamed with NMexus, a US-based accelerator, in 2025.

According to IIT Kanpur, SIIC’s efforts complement national initiatives like Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Vocal for Local, and Make in India.  SIIC helps entrepreneurs in a variety of industries, which promotes economic growth and technology-driven solutions that meet societal demands.
