Veera Dynamics and Binford Labs Collaborate to Build India’s First Stealth Drones for Military Use

Three points you will get to know in this article:

1. Veera Dynamics developed Project RAMA, a stealth coating that reduces radar and thermal visibility.
2. Binford Labs integrates RAMA into autonomous drones, boosting covert mission capabilities.
3. The duo plans mass production of stealth drones for high-risk military operations.

Introducing Project RAMA: India’s Breakthrough in Stealth Technology

Veera Dynamics, a defense tech firm located in Hyderabad and a partner of the Indian Navy in developing advanced combat technology, has unveiled Project RAMA (Radar Absorption & Multispectral Adaptive). This initiative aims to create an innovative stealth material designed to diminish the visibility of platforms on both radar and infrared spectrums.

RAMA is a modular, platform-agnostic coating that provides a significant enhancement in survivability across land, air, and sea domains.  Project RAMA greatly diminishes radar cross-section and thermal signatures, narrowing the adversary’s detect-to-engage window to almost zero.  A company press release revealed on Wednesday that the material can be utilized across various platforms, such as unmanned systems, naval vessels, and manned aircraft, to facilitate low-observability operations in contemporary threat environments.

Veera Dynamics CEO Sai Teja Peddineni stated, “RAMA embodies our concept of platform-wide invisibility.”  “It’s more than a material; it represents a strategic capability for future warfare.”

Binford Labs’ Autonomous Drones: Built for GPS-Denied Battlefields

Veera collaborated with Binford Research Labs, a defense firm located in Hyderabad, to deploy this capability in the field.  Binford constructs autonomous drones that can function in environments lacking RF and GPS signals.  Binford has received three IDEX awards from India’s Ministry of Defence and has provided several drone platforms currently utilized in active military operations. The company is also engaged in multiple ongoing projects with the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Synergizing Stealth and Autonomy: A New Era of Military Drones

By incorporating Project RAMA into Binford’s drones, their capacity to execute covert, high-risk operations in contested areas is improved.  The goal of combining RAMA’s multispectral stealth with Binford’s autonomy stack is to provide a new generation of unmanned aerial systems that are optimized for survivability, precision, and mission adaptability.

Scaling Up: Mass Production Plans for Attritable Stealth Drones

The press release added that the joint venture also aims to scale production of attritable, dispensable stealth drones, in line with India’s increasing demand for mass-deployable unmanned systems capable of functioning in high-threat environments while preserving operational surprise.
