Dhruva Space Set to Deploy Its First Commercial Satellite via SpaceX Launch

LEAP-1 Mission: Dhruva Space’s Milestone Launch on SpaceX Falcon 9

Dhruva Space is preparing to launch its inaugural commercial satellite mission, LEAP-1, in Q3 2025, using a Falcon 9 rocket from SpaceX, which is owned by Elon Musk.

This mission includes payloads from the Australian firms Akula Tech and Esper Satellites.  LEAP-1 will accommodate the payloads on Dhruva’s P-30 satellite platform, which underwent successful testing on ISRO’s PSLV-C58 in January 2024.

Collaborative Payloads from Akula Tech and Esper Satellites

The LEAP-1 satellite will transport Nexus-01, an AI module created by Akula Tech for onboard data processing and real-time geospatial analytics.

Additionally, it will transport OTR-2 from Esper Satellites, a hyperspectral imager designed to obtain spectrally-rich Earth observation data.

P-30 Satellite Platform: Tested and Ready for Global Deployment

Dhruva Space cofounder and CEO Sanjay Nekkanti stated, “After the successful qualification of the P-30 on ISRO’s PSLV-C58, Dhruva Space is thrilled to introduce its homegrown P-30 satellite platform to the global market. ”

Dhruva Space, established in 2012 by Nekkanti, Chaitanya Dora Surapureddy, Abhay Egoor, and Krishna Teja Penamakuru, offers full-stack engineering solutions aimed at facilitating ‘faster, more reliable and more cost-effective access to space.  Additionally, the startup offers its clients integrated access to the ownership and operation of space-based assets.

In April of the previous year, the space engineering solution provider based in Hyderabad finalized its Series A funding round at INR 123 Cr (equivalent to $15 Mn).  It has the support of various investors, including the Indian Angel Network Alpha Fund, Blue Ashva Capital, Silverneedle Ventures, BIG Global Investment JSC (BITEXCO Group), IvyCap Ventures, Mumbai Angels, and Blume Founders Fund.
