Indian Startup Co-Founder Hid Job Loss from Family, Later Earned $50K in Revenue and Calls It a Blessing from the Universe

Indian Founder Hid Job Loss, Later Earned $50K - Calls It a Blessing

Three points you will get to know in this article:

1. Harshil Tomar, co-founder of Dreamlaunch, was fired from his remote US job for focusing too much on his startup, a fact he hid from his family.
2. Despite having only about nine months of runway, he chose to fully commit to his startup instead of seeking a new job, a decision supported by his co-founder.
3. After six months, the startup hit $50,000 in revenue and $10,000 in recurring monthly revenue (MRR), which Tomar calls a reward for taking the “scary jump”.

The Day the Dream Took Hold

After being sacked from his remote US job in March for “focusing too much” on his firm, an Indian startup founder has now successfully generated $50,000 in revenue and $10,000 in recurring revenue each month.

Co-founder of Dreamlaunch, Harshil Tomar, wrote a thorough essay on social media site X (previously Twitter) detailing his journey from destruction to prosperity.

Tomar said that after attending the morning meeting at 7 am on March 13 and providing updates on his work, he was let go from a remote position with a US corporation “exactly six months ago.”  “I saw that my team leader, or TL, seemed a little depressed.  In the end, when I asked him why, he replied, “We have to part ways.”

The simple reason is that, in their opinion, I was concentrating too much on my startup.  I pleaded with them to give me another chance so that I could work more efficiently and effectively, but unfortunately, the choice had already been made.  I was heartbroken.  When I told my friend @ilavanyajain that I had been fired, he asked me four or five times, “Are you kidding?”  Then I shared the same with my co-founder @WasimShips,” he continued.

Confusion and a $1,000/mo Baseline

The startup was “doing $1,000/mo roughly” when he was dismissed, Tomar continued, and he spent the following ten to fifteen days “in a confused state of choosing my dream or looking for a safety net again.”

“I was afraid.  If I lived really cheaply, I had about nine months of runway.  I took a seat and proceeded to reenact every scenario that could possibly occur, including the best, worst, and okay ones.  At last, I answered the phone.  I’ll try to figure this out and live on a tight budget.  My life would encourage me to avoid taking chances as I spent more time searching for safety each day.  One more year, I’ll have to pay my rent, one more year to consider purchasing a home, and one more year to consider getting married,” he added.

Co-Founder Support and the Family Secret

So I answered my phone.  Let’s give it our all!  In the worst situation, I’ll get some freelancing work and earn $1,000 a month so that I can always support myself.  I began this adventure with a meager wage before moving to a full-time position.  He said, “This was suggested by my co-founder, @WasimShips, and he did not withdraw any finance to help ensure I stay afloat.”

According to Tomar, his parents are still unaware that he lost the distant position.  “I tell them that I just fix the tickets they provide me and code for two to three hours every day.  In such circumstances, dealing with families may be quite frightening, therefore I decided to keep the choice to myself,” he stated.

Achieving $50K Revenue and $10K MRR

The highs and lows over the past six months have been difficult, he continued.  “From working with the biggest brands to going months without any clients.”  I have never been more thick-skinned in my life than I am after the Journey.  However, things happened when you showed up every day.  “I have sponsors, retainers, and things are happening,” he stated.

“Today, we completed $50k revenue,” Tomar said.  About to hire our 1 -> 10 staff at last.  months with a $10k MRR.  Sponsored on X.  was chosen for residency.  constructing my own SAAS.

The Blessing and the Call to Action

Although the choice might have gone wrong, he acknowledged that “I took the scary jump and the universe rewarded me I guess.”  After seeing Sharktank USA, the child inside of me who had always dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur finally started his own business and helped others realize theirs.

“This is your cue to keep going, keep showing up every day, and keep working hard if you are reading this far!  Focus and put in a lot of effort.  Decide what you desire.  Disregard other people’s opinions.  And work so hard that it would be irrational for you to fail,” he suggested.
