Bangalore is known as India’s startup capital, but that reputation has come at a high cost.
The cost of renting a tiny office in the city has skyrocketed.
According to data, commercial rents have increased by almost 26% in just five years, from ₹74 per square foot in 2019 to ₹93 per square foot in 2024. Bangalore is becoming one of the most expensive cities in the nation for office space due to its consistent increase.
It is difficult for startups, independent contractors, and remote teams to defend spending lakhs of rupees annually on an underutilized office.
Imagine a tiny business attempting to rent 500 square feet.
The rent alone exceeds ₹46,000 per month at the current rates.
The number rises significantly when electricity, upkeep, and deposits are included. For the majority of businesses, the money would be better used for hiring, customer acquisition, or product development.
This problem is not exclusive to startups.
