The much-anticipated IPL 2025 season begins on March 22, with fans looking forward to exhilarating cricket action, new rivalries, and, of course, fresh talent.  The IPL 2025 super auction, held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, saw numerous high-profile players go under the hammer, with record-breaking bids paving the way for an exciting season ahead.

Among the major trades, Shreyas Iyer became the second-most expensive player in IPL history, with Lucknow Super Giants paying a record Rs 27 crore for Rishabh Pant.  This was a watershed event in IPL history, as Pant was the highest-paid player in the auction. After a bidding war with Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings acquired Iyer for Rs 26.75 crore, up from a base price of Rs 2 crore.

The auction also saw prominent names like Venkatesh Iyer, Arshdeep Singh, and Mitchell Starc fetch high prices, with the latter’s move to Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 24.75 crore setting a new standard for IPL overseas players. Starc’s record-breaking contract came following a sensational 2024 IPL season in which he helped KKR win the trophy after a decade-long wait.
