Namma Yatri started operations in Mangalore, Karnataka
After a month-long trial, the app was formally introduced by UT Khader and transport department authorities
The service intends to improve regional transportation accessibility and generate income for drivers
Namma Yatri's expansion into Mangalore follows success in other Karnataka cities like Bengaluru, Mysore, Tumkur, and Kalaburagi
The app has considerable grassroots support, with over 300 drivers enrolled and 500 rides completed in November alone
The idea has spurred interest in neighbouring towns, including Udupi and Manipal, who plan to introduce the app soon
Earlier this year, the app was successful in Tumkur and Kalaburagi, with drivers taking over 280,000 journeys and earning Rs 2 crore
Namma Yatri has 2.3 lakh drivers and over 50 lakh customers, permitting around 1.6 million trips per day
