Deepinder Goyal, born in Punjab in 1983, studied at IIT Delhi and worked at Bain & Company before founding Zomato, initially named FoodieBay.
Inspired by long food queues at Bain, Goyal built an intranet-based food ordering tool that quickly evolved into one of India’s largest food delivery platforms.
Despite family resistance and financial hurdles, Goyal and co-founder Pankaj Chaddah scaled Zomato from a small startup into a billion-dollar public company.
Zomato expanded internationally to over 23 countries and recorded a market cap of $29.94 billion in 2025, with gross revenue reaching INR 7,079 crore in FY23.
Deepinder’s personal journey includes marriage to Kanchan Joshi, later remarriage to Mexican model Grecia Munoz, and fatherhood to daughter Siara.
Beyond Zomato, Goyal has invested in over 18 startups including Shiprocket, Pristyn Care, Unacademy, Park+, and Airblack, supporting India’s startup ecosystem.
In 2024, Goyal launched “Continue,” a wellness venture focused on mental health and tracking, signaling his broader entrepreneurial vision.
As a judge on Shark Tank India Season 3, Goyal supported high-impact startups while competing with rival Swiggy, which may sponsor Season 4 of the show.
